Biography

Yury P. Sentyurin is the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, GECF, a position he assumed on January 1, 2018. He is an accomplished Administrator and experienced Negotiator with vast experience in policy issues.

Prior to joining the GECF, he was the State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Energy. He also served in other capacities as State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Deputy Head of Committee on Energy, Transport and Communications, First Deputy Governor of the Nizhegorodsky Region, Head, Department of the Ministry on Antimonopoly Policy and Business Support

Dr. Sentyurin was also Co-chair of several intergovernmental Commissions between the Russian Federation and Bolivia, Afghanistan, Congo respectively, in addition to being Russia’s Chief negotiator on cooperation in areas such as gas and oil, with several countries namely India, Pakistan, Singapore, Brazil, Venezuela, Vietnam, Cuba, Syria, and South Africa.

A recipient of several Awards including the Gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation, First Class Medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherlands, Honourable Certificate of the President of the Russian Federation and Honored Worker of fuel and energy sector among others, Dr. Sentyurin who speaks four languages - Russian, English, French and Farsi, has a Ph. D. in Political Science from the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod, a Master’s degree in Law from the Russian Academy of Public Administration (now the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration) and another Master’s degree in Economics.
