In an ageing industry, many LNG asset owners are facing the challenge of providing assurance to investors, gas suppliers and potential offtake customers on safe and sustainable facility operations, post initial design life. For most, 20-year initial design life facilities, renegotiation of commercial contracts based on additional field developments and introduction of third-party gas supply, form the basis of the facility extended life, which is typically 5 – 10 years.
The growing trend of assets commissioning life extension studies resulted in the development of a novel life extension integrated solution, based on combining multi-disciplinary technical expertise, application of an innovative automated platform for remnant life assessment and commercial capabilities for identification of life extension recommendations. The innovative automated platform, driven by a need for repeatability and cost competitiveness, is a key differentiator of the integrated solution whereby engineering assessments on thousands of assets comprising a single facility can be performed off-site in near real-time.
The final aspects of the integrated solution involve application extensive inspection capabilities incorporating innovative methodologies and development of repair / replacement programs, thereby providing asset owners with a fully integrated turnkey life extension solution.
Providing asset owners with a listing of inspection, repair or replacement scopes with associated lifecycle costs, allows for transparent decision making and improved stakeholder confidence for finalization of extended life programs.
This paper will provide details on the successful application of the integrated life extension solution to some of the major global LNG players.
