Agenda-setting Gastech 2022 concludes with record attendance

MILAN – Gastech 2022, the world’s largest global exhibition and conference for natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, low carbon solutions and climate technologies, has concluded today.

Over four action packed days, 668 speakers – a record number, including more than 180 CEOs, energy ministers, and leading industry figures – debated the issues driving the industry and shaping its future.

From the energy security issues at the front of policymakers’ agenda to the dynamics of a just transition and the profound transformation taking place in the global LNG supply chain, panellists in Gastech’s strategic, commercial, and dedicated hydrogen sessions explored the topics making headlines around the world.

Attendees heard from an exciting range of world-renowned speakers. Former German Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sigmar Gabriel, spoke to attendees on the energy implications of Europe’s ongoing geopolitical challenges. Christiana Figueres, former Executive Secretary of the UNFCC, and one of the architects of the Paris Climate agreement, challenged the industry to meet its words with actions.

Meanwhile, across the panels, 20 Ministers from India, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt and many more, unveiled their plans for the energy transition, engaging with 120 CEOs and business leaders from the biggest firms in the sector, including Gastech co-hosts Eni, Tellurian, Baker Hughes and Chevron, to discuss how to meet global energy challenges head on.

Alongside these critical debates, 39,467 international industry professionals filled a bustling exhibition floor, packed with innovations from across the global energy supply chain. More than 750 exhibiting companies displayed their latest cutting-edge products, whether in the maritime and logistics sector or within plant operations, engaging their peers across the Fiera Milano exhibition floor and through Gastech’s Procurement Meeting Place, Gastech Energy Club, and 13 country pavilions.

At the Gastech closing ceremony, Paul Sullivan and Nick Milne, Co-Chairs of the Gastech Committee, highlighted the strength of this year’s event, and the issues driving the industry this year.

Paul Sullivan, Co-Chair of Gastech Committee, and Senior Vice President, Worley, commented:

“The conference this year was great at dealing with the changes around the geopolitical urgency affecting the sector as well as the broad range of interests of attendees. This year there was unprecedented breadth at sessions across the conference. What is also clear from this year’s Gastech is that there is a commitment to the energy transition at an industrial level, and that there has been an industrial-sized push.”

Nick Milne, Co-Chair of the Gastech Committee, and Senior Vice President, Offshore, Oil/Gas & LNG Finance, Macquarie Group, commented:

“This year’s conference was a massive success. The sessions reflect the fact that the industry is moving faster than the regulators in terms of putting in frameworks around carbon neutrality and management, and measurement of emissions. It is fantastic to see that it's a push from the industry around energy transition, rather than a pull.”

Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events, commented:

“This year’s Gastech has been a record-breaking event, and a signal of the serious engagement paid to the crucial energy challenges we are facing globally. At a difficult time, in terms of energy supply around the world, this has been an opportune moment to hold important discussions around natural gas, LNG, hydrogen and the energy transition. Gastech is where the big questions are answered and we look forward to an even bigger forum next year as we head to Singapore.”

Gastech will return in 2023 in Singapore, 11-14 September at the Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre.
