Joshua Volz currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe, Eurasia, Africa, and the Middle East at the U.S. Department of Energy.Volz was previously Director for the Office of European and Eurasian Affairs in DOE’s Office of International Affairs. Prior to joining DOE, Volz led the Eastern Mediterranean team at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Energy Resources and held numerous positions within the U.S. Department of Defense. He has served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and Syria.Volz holds a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from Kalamazoo College, an M.S. in National Security Strategy and Resourcing from the National Defense University, and lectures at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies, and Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.He speaks French, Hebrew, Arabic, and Spanish.
