Alejandro Sanchez Gestido is Global Head of LNG at Glencore. He is responsible for developing and managing Glencore’s global LNG activities, which comprises long term LNG sales, purchase and regasification contracts as well as spot trading activities, equity LNG volumes and term LNG shipping contracts. He joined Glencore in 2016 and was appointed to his current position in 2020.
Alejandro has been leading the development of LNG businesses in various countries for more than 20 years. He began his career in LNG at Union Fenosa Gas (UFG) in Madrid, where he was instrumental in the build-up of UFG’s global LNG business, with liquefaction projects in Egypt and Oman; new build of LNG carriers and LNG regas projects in Spain, as well as pioneering their international LNG trading activities. He then moved to Axpo (formerly EGL AG) in Switzerland in 2006, where he set up and developed, from scratch, the company’s international LNG procurement and trading activities as well as their downstream gas business in Spain. He then moved to London in 2011 to start up the LNG business for Noble Group, then co-leading the growth of the business into a 2 mtpa trading portfolio of LNG supply, sales and shipping contracts. Alejandro also worked for one year at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London in the build-up of the LNG desk, within their commodities department (FICC Division).
