Arjen Boersma is a senior scientist at TNO working in the field of material development and applications for chemical sensors. His research focusses on the relation between the chemistry and composition of innovative materials (polymers and ceramics) and their changing properties when exposed to a changing chemical environment. The integration of these new materials with electronic and optical transducer platforms opens the possibility for the development of new gas and liquid sensors. Two classes of chemical sensors for oil and gas applications are currently under investigation:? fiber optic sensors for remote sensing in extreme conditions, and miniaturized electronic gas sensors for low cost monitoring of e.g. gas composition.?? Arjen Boersma received his PhD in polymer physics in 1998 at the TUDelft, Netherlands on the dielectric properties of polymers and blends. He has been working at TNO for 18 years. He has 37 journal publications and holds 16 patents.
