Gareth has over 35 years of experience developing, implementing and operating energy facilities with a focus on natural gas. This has involved assessing, planning and managing capital projects throughout his career including numerous multi-million dollar projects. He began work with the FortisBC organization in 1990 and as Engineering Manager with FortisBC Energy Vancouver Island (FEVI) Gareth had a key role in developing and building the new FEVI utility. The FEVI scope included transmission pipelines, compressor stations, distribution systems, propane systems, and the Mt. Hayes 1.5 billion cubic feet liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage facility which began operations in 2011. From 2006 through 2015 Gareth led the advancement of FortisBC low carbon energy solutions for communities and established the FortisBC Alternative Energy Services business. Recent successes for Gareth were establishing FortisBC LNG for transportation as a growth business in British Columbia and leading the FortisBC $400 million Tilbury LNG first phase expansion project through to final investment decision (FID) in September 2014 including securing external approvals and establishing a competitive open-access LNG tariff. As Vice-President Fortis LNG GP Inc. and General Manager, Business Development, FortisBC Holdings Inc., Gareth is responsible for developing and implementing the FortisBC LNG expansion strategy. With the Tilbury LNG first phase moving into operation in late 2018, Gareth is leading the development of subsequent Tilbury phases as well as international market development. Gareth earned a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, completed the Executive Program at Queen's University and is a registered professional engineer in British Columbia and Alberta.
