David James was recently appointed as the Associate Deputy Minister of Natural Gas for Alberta Energy. Previously, David served as the Assistant Deputy Minister for Strategic Policy where he was responsible for leading strategic energy policy for the province, including work to foster market access to ensure that as the resource owner, Albertans receive fair value for their energy resources. He also served as the Assistant Deputy Minister for Electricity and Sustainable Energy, where he was responsible for electricity policy within Alberta, and for leading the government’s efforts to transition Alberta’s electricity system to a lower carbon system, and a capacity market framework. David has been with the Government of Alberta since September 2011. Prior to joining the Government of Alberta, he served as a telecommunications officer with the Canadian Forces providing deployed and static telecommunications support for Army operations in Canada and overseas. David has an undergraduate degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering, and a Masters of Business Administration, both from the Royal Military College of Canada. A dedicated family man, who loves to spend time with his wife and three teenage children.
