Paul Varello is the Founder and President of Commonwealth Projects, LLC. Commonwealth is developing an LNG export terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Prior to his current role, Mr. Varello was Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Construction Company, a publicly-held civil construction company. Prior to Sterling, he was Founder and Chairman of Commonwealth Engineering & Construction Company which specialized in the design and construction of LNG, refining, chemical and gas processing projects. Earlier in his career Mr. Varello was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American Ref-Fuel Company which developed, owned and operated power plants that converted solid municipal waste into energy. Prior to American Ref-Fuel he was employed by Fluor Corporation for 18 years rising to the position of President of the Process Sector. Mr. Varello served as Monitor Trustee for the Federal Trade Commission of the United States overseeing the LNG tank business of Chicago Bridge and Iron. Mr. Varello was Chairman of Sims Metal Management Limited (NYSE: SMS and ASX: SGM), a global recycler of metals and electronics, headquartered in Sydney, Australia, and Director of The Ryland Group, Inc. (NYSE: RYL), a national homebuilder and a mortgage-finance company and Sterling Construction Company (NASDAQ: STRL). Mr. Varello is a Registered Professional Engineer in California, Texas and Louisiana. He holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Villanova University and is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program.
