Engr. Sarki Auwalu

BIO
Engr. Sarki Auwalu was born on 12th March 1965. He had his undergraduate study at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he bagged a Bachelor of Engineering honors in Chemical Engineering in 1989. He also earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Bayero University, Kano in 1993.
He has a personal character traits-spirit; flexible, pragmatic and resilient. He is highly dependable, competent, ambitious and has excellent knowledge of oil and gas with focus in Regulation. He is an expert
petroleum industry professional and has over 30 years cumulative work experience.
After graduation and completion of the mandatory one (1) year National Youth service, Engr. Sarki joined Kano State Ministry of Industry and Commerce from 1990 to 1992 as an Industrial Officer responsible for, among other issues, the preparation of feasibility and option guide for small and medium scale industries and assessment of capacity utilization, product quality and alternative sources of raw materials for process industries. From 1992 to 1998, he worked with the Kano State Environmental Planning and Protection
Agency as an Environmental Engineer and Program Manager for United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) Environment and Natural Resources Management Program.
His journey in the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) started in 1998 where he joined as a Principal Chemical Engineer. Before attaining his current position of Director/CEO of DPR in December 2019, Engr. Sarki worked in various divisions in DPR - Technical Services (TS) Division; Health, Safety and
Environment (HSE) Division; and Engineering and Standards (E&S) Division.
While in TS and HSE divisions, his core responsibilities were to ensure the implementation of statutory Safety laws, Regulations, and Standards in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry.
He later was actively involved in establishing the Engineering and Standards division where he superintended over the management, supervision and monitoring of facilities development and major modification projects for Upstream Facilities. Thereafter, he was saddled with the responsibility of managing the Standards, Conformity Assessment and Technology Adaptation branch of the division. While occupying the position, he established and achieved the branch’s main objective which is to create an effective process to facilitate and support the participation of Oil and Gas Operators, Original Equipment Manufacturers, Service Providers, and Vendors in the use and application of coherent, effective, widely recognized and relevant standards across the value chain.
AS part of the Department’s capacity development programs, Sarki attended various programs in oil and gas viz:

Diploma in Drilling Risk Assessment, 2000 – PETRAD, Norway
Diploma in Petroleum Policy and Management, 2002 – PETRAD, Norway

Diploma in Petroleum Policy and Operations, 2007 – PETRAD, Norway
Policy, Strategy & Leadership Course (PSLC), 2017 – NIPSS Kuru, Jos
Engr. Sarki has participated in so many technical committees, assignments
and projects, both in Nigeria and abroad, with huge impact in the oil and gas
industry. He has also participated and presented papers in major international
conferences around the world. Some of his major achievements especially in the oil and gas industry are:
Initiated and managed the Personnel Accountability System (Offshore Safety Permit - OSP Program) for the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
Initiated and drafted guidelines for Offshore Safety Training, Issuance of OSP, Implementation of Technical Safety Control Studies in facilities development and/or modification project, Rig Safety Audits, Implementation of Risk Analysis (Risk Based Inspection), etc. in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry.
Created and established new Technology Qualification Process in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry.
Developed industrial inspection modules and initiated the concept of small-scale technology business incubation in Nigeria.
Developed newer methods for design of physicochemical wastewater treatment plants and waste recycling, re-use & minimization techniques.
He ensures the sustenance of professionalism in his work and cascaded this requirement to other colleagues in the Department especially those who worked closely with him.
He is a COREN Registered Engineer, Member - Nigerian Society of Engineers, Member - Society of Petroleum Engineers and Associate Member - Institute of Chemical Engineers UK.
