WHAT THE INDUSTRY SAID AT GASTECH 2018

Jean-Baptiste Dubreil, Chief Economist, IEA

"In terms of energy markets natural gas is well placed thanks to its flexibility, abundance and advantages in terms of environmental footprint, with LNG being the driving engine for trade growth in the next years to achieve a more competitive and global gas market."

Neil Chatterjee, Chairman, US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

"Gastech offers a unique opportunity for energy players representing a diverse set of nations and perspectives to converge and engage on the foremost issues facing the natural gas industry. As a federal regulator in the United States – which has recently become a net exporter of natural gas for the first time in several decades – Gastech 2018 served as a platform for me to share my views regarding the significance of natural gas in our country, explore the opportunities I see for collaboration with our international partners and identify the challenges we as a global community must work together to address."

Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, CEO, Qatar Petroleum

"Gas is a destination fuel and I think it’s the solution for the future as the cleanest fossil fuel known to mankind for many, many uses."

Rod Christie, President and Chief Executive Officer of Turbomachinery & Process Solutions, Baker Hughes, a GE Company

“First and foremost, Gastech is a great opportunity as it provides one location with so many people. There is always something very relevant to talk about and it provides a great connection across everybody in the industry. One of the main benefits of this is that things move much faster as you can shorten the length of time to have a discussion around topics we all share. Having various groups all together allows us to really start getting likeminded thinkers to consider how we can change the industry and really move it forward faster versus trying to do it in an insulated and isolated basis.”

Meg Gentle, President and Chief Executive Officer, Tellurian

"We know that we need more than 100 million tonnes of new construction to begin and that FID on that construction is not happening fast enough to meet demand growth."

Gastech 2018 An Industry Viewpoint

Gastech 2018 identified an unprecedented growth in global natural gas demand principally driven by China with the continued rise of North America as a major supply source.

China becomes the world’s largest natural gas importer by 2019 and with 171 billion cubic meters (bcm) of imports by 2023, is mostly supplied by LNG.

The United States, already the world’s top producer, accounts for almost 45% of the growth in global production and nearly three-quarters of LNG export growth.

Upward pricing pressure has emerged in the second half of 2018 as projected demand growth will not...
