Hironobu Watanabe currently serves as managing executive officer at the NYK Line headquarters in Tokyo. He joined NYK in 1991 and afterward worked in a number of the company's shipping divisions in Tokyo, Shanghai, and Secaucus, New Jersey.

In 2016, he was appointed general manager of the company’s LNG Group, and two years later he was promoted to senior general manager of the group. In 2023, he attained his current positions as NYK managing executive officer and chief executive of NYK’s Energy Division.
