Since 2014 Massimiliano Salini is a Member of the European Parliament in the EPP Group, where he is full Member of the Committees for International Trade (INTA), for Transport and Tourism (TRAN), and substitute Member for Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE). Mr Salini parliamentary work aims at seeking a balance between EU industrial competitiveness and the transition towards a more sustainable economy. His main centers of interest are energy, industrial and transport policies. Since 2018 he is Rapporteur for the European Parliament on the New Space Programme, in the framework of the new MFF for 2021-2027. In the current mandate he has worked on several files of the Fit for 55 Package, among them the new CO2 standards for cars and vans and the regulation for alternative fuels infrastructures. In 2009, he was elected President of the Province of Cremona. During his five years mandate, he made a successful spending review permitting significant administration savings; he realized some important road infrastructures. He started a process of administrative simplification of the whole territory; he has launched a radical reform of local public services (gas, water, waste), promoting a strong synergy between public and private sectors.
