Mike Haworth has been in the cryogenic tank business for almost 50 years, starting with CBI in the early 70’s, After spells as field engineer, construction supervisor and design engineer he ran the cryogenic tank design group, starting with the early LNG tanks for Algeria and the first steel/concrete tanks on Das Island.
Subsequently he headed up multi-disciplinary teams working with Brown Root on oil and gas and defence infrastructure projects and then with British Gas on their construction management board, with a matrix of 400 engineers designing capital projects.
In 1995 Mike and his colleague, formed Technodyne International Ltd, an independent design house dedicated to cryogenic tanks. He was chief engineer for his team who designed over 100 tanks, half of them for LNG, in an 18 year period.
He has continued as an independent consultant, acting as owners’ engineer on import and export terminals, on failure investigations and as expert witness in litigation on LNG tanks and ships. Among recent projects are re-validation of LNG tanks built in 1962, a re-commissioning of an Ethylene tank after 10 years in mothball, and conversion of a 1970’s LNG tank to Propane service.
